Image optimization
Dedicated featureOptimize Shopify product images without replacing the original unnecessarily.
PROVEN reduces file size while keeping the image format. If the optimized version is not smaller, it does not replace the original. For changes that can be restored safely, the original is retained.
Available in the installed PROVEN appUsed on a real catalog
A flow exercised on thousands of images, not just examples.
In the documented run that formed the basis for this feature, 8,508 images were analyzed and 7,708 met the conditions for optimization without changing format. The final verification found no eligible images left unprocessed.
These figures describe that real run. Savings depend on the images in each store.
Technical details
The same rules for every eligible image.
For anyone who wants the exact details, these are the settings used by the current optimization profile.
Aspect ratio is preserved and images below the limit are not enlarged.
Orientation is preserved correctly and the format remains JPEG.
PNG remains PNG, including format transparency.
WebP remains WebP; optimization does not change format.
Used when dimensions need to be reduced for a quality result.
Unneeded metadata is removed; animated images are left unchanged.
Main rule
Use the smaller file. If there is no saving, keep the original.
Processing an image does not automatically mean replacing it. PROVEN compares the optimized file size with the original and prepares the change only when the optimized file is smaller.
optimized file size < original file sizeHow it works
From the store image to a verified result.
PROVEN checks the image before processing, optimizes it, compares file sizes and rechecks the store before replacement.
- 01
Read the current image
PROVEN starts from the file that currently exists in Shopify.
- 02
Retain the original
The original and optimized version are kept temporarily in cloud storage for verification and, where restore is safe, for returning to the previous image.
- 03
Optimize in the same format
The image is resized only when it exceeds the limit and recompressed without changing format.
- 04
Choose the smaller file
If optimization does not reduce file size, the original stays unchanged.
- 05
Recheck before publishing
If the Shopify image changed in the meantime, PROVEN stops instead of overwriting a newer version.
- 06
Publish and confirm
After replacement, PROVEN verifies that the new image is available and matches the prepared result.
Verification after publication
The process does not end when the file is sent.
PROVEN checks the published result before marking the process successful.
The image must become usable in Shopify again.
The published format must remain the original image format.
The published file must match the prepared version.
PROVEN checks that the delivered result is the one expected.
The resulting image must be accessible after Shopify processing.
If the result cannot be confirmed, PROVEN does not show it as a verified success.
Controlled restore
Where it is safe, you can return to the original image.
Before Restore, PROVEN checks that the current image is still the one produced by optimization. If the store changed in the meantime, the reversal stops.
Restore does not erase history. Optimization and reversal remain separate actions. Included media-backup retention is 30 days; some plans may provide a longer retention period.
- 1
Confirm restore is available and the original is available.
- 2
Check the image currently in Shopify.
- 3
Prepare the original for return.
- 4
Recheck the state immediately before the change.
- 5
Restore the original.
- 6
Confirm the result and keep the reversal in Audit.
Built-in protections
Image optimization changes only what needs to change.
- ALT text remains separate from file optimization.
- Product and variant associations are not changed.
- Images are not converted to another format.
- Images below the dimension limit are not enlarged.
- A larger result never replaces the original.
- Animated images are left unchanged.
Separate control for images
Optimize → Publish → Verify → Audit → Restore.
Image optimization is distinct from ALT checks and text remediation. It works on the image file itself with its own safety and verification rules.
