Romanian language checks
Why diacritic restoration depends on context and why PROVEN refuses to make automatic choices in ambiguous cases.
On this page
Romanian diacritics cannot be handled correctly with simple search and replace. One form without diacritics can correspond to multiple valid words.
The classic example
The form fata can have different restorations depending on context. An automatic choice without enough evidence can change the meaning of the text.
What PROVEN uses
The Romanian language engine combines lexical resources with contextual evidence to separate:
- cases where restoration can be determined safely enough;
- cases with multiple viable candidates;
- cases that must remain for review.
Ambiguous cases remain for review
When two interpretations remain plausible, the correct result is a merchant decision, not an arbitrary change.
Extending to other languages
Romanian-specific rules are kept separate from rules for other languages. This lets PROVEN expand language support without automatically applying Romanian rules to every language.
